The IBHE was tasked by statute with formulating a Master Plan for Higher Education in the state of Illinois.

In August 2000, SCC opened a 33,000-square-foot (3,100 m2) Educational Center that serves as both an electronic classroom, meeting room, and theater for performing arts.
