He served as Director and as Vice President of the Development Bank of Japan.
During the Nixon shock in August of the same year, he served as general manager of the General Affairs Division of the Foreign Bureau, dealing with a confusing market.
In 1981, he was appointed as a director of the Bank of Japan and oversaw international relations.
Upon his retirement, he served as a board of director to Yamaichi Securities and Fuji Xerox.
Ogata died on 14 April 2014 in Tokyo of heart failure at the age of 86.
