Sommeri

Sommeri is a municipality in the district of Arbon in the canton of Thurgau in Switzerland.

[4] Between 1474 and 1798, the vogteien of Niedersommeri and Obersommeri formed a court of the Prince-Abbot of St. Gall.

Originally the major economic activities in Sommeri were predominantly grain production and forestry.

In the last third of the 20th Century some industrial plants moved into the villages, especially embroidery and furniture manufacturing.

At the beginning of the 21st Century there were companies in the HVAC industry, precision engineering and manufacturing school furniture in Sommeri.

[4] Sommeri has an area, as of 2009[update], of 4.21 square kilometers (1.63 sq mi).

Of the rest of the land, 0.27 km2 (0.10 sq mi) or 6.4% is settled (buildings or roads).

It consists of the village of Sommeri and the hamlets of Buerüüti, Fälwis and Hungerbüel.

[7] The age distribution, as of 2009[update], in Sommeri is; 54 children or 10.4% of the population are between 0 and 9 years old and 65 teenagers or 12.5% are between 10 and 19.

[12] In the 2007 federal election the most popular party was the SVP which received 48.12% of the vote.

In the federal election, a total of 203 votes were cast, and the voter turnout was 54.7%.

[8] From the 2000 census[update], 282 or 53.1% were Roman Catholic, while 168 or 31.6% belonged to the Swiss Reformed Church.
