Sretenka Street

The monastery also was named in honor of the deliverance of Moscow from the conquest of Timur's troops in 1395.

In 1395 the Great Vladimir road from Moscow to the Trinity Lavra of St. Sergius was renamed in Sretenka.

At that time behind the Sretensky gate a new settlement of traders and craftsmen began to emerge around the monastery.

In the second half of 17th century the settlement was named Pankratevskoy "black" sloboda (Russian: Панкратьевская «черной» слобода).
