[1] This species was described as Aparua regia in 1968 by Ray Forster from female and male specimens collected in Three Kings Islands.
[2] The holotype is stored at Auckland War Memorial Museum under registration number AMNZ5046.
The carapace and legs are orange brown.
The abdomen is reticulated with reddish brown dorsally.
[1] Under the New Zealand Threat Classification System, this species is listed as "Naturally Uncommon" with the qualifiers of "Island Endemic" and "One Location".
