His dissertation, focused on the concept of belief, was completed under the guidance of M. C. Galavotti and W. Spohn.
[1] In 2011, he moved to Sweden to take on a research and teaching position at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University, where he remained until 2013.
From 2013 to 2015, he taught philosophy at Tecnológico de Monterrey in Mexico City.
Stefano later became a Fellow at the Foundation for Interreligious and Intercultural Research and Dialogue in Geneva, Switzerland, during 2015–2016.
In 2021, he also began co-editing the Cambridge University Press Elements series titled "Islam and the Sciences" with astrophysicist Nidhal Guessoum.
