Steinheil (crater)

Steinheil is a lunar impact crater that is located in the rugged highlands in the southeastern part of the Moon.

It was named after German astronomer and physicist Carl August von Steinheil in 1935.

[1] It forms a prominent crater pair with the similar-sized Watt, which it partly overlies to the southeast.

[3] This is a relatively circular crater that has undergone some light erosion from subsequent impacts.

[4] By convention these features are identified on lunar maps by placing the letter on the side of the crater midpoint that is closest to Steinheil.
