Stephen Lisberger

He is the George Barth Geller Distinguished Professor for Research and chair of Neurobiology at the Duke University School of Medicine.

[3] Upon receiving his PhD, Lisberger conducted postdoctoral work at the National Institutes of Health before accepting a faculty position in the Department of Physiology at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

[1] As a professor at UCSF, Lisberger led a research team who used the vestibulo-ocular reflex to understand how certain brain cells learn behavior.

[7][8] In October 2000, UCSF suspended one study in his lab for two weeks while the Board of Supervisors investigated the animal abuse claims.

[14] In 2020, Lisberger was elected a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science for "fundamental contributions to understanding of the organization and function of brain mechanisms that underlie sensorimotor learning, using visually-driven eye movements as a model system.
