The relationship of this taxon to other taxa within the order is unknown (incertae sedis), and it has not yet been placed with certainty into any family.

[1] It is sometimes placed in the family Bionectriaceae (order Hypocreales).

Stilbella erythrocephala (Ditmar) Lindau 1900) has a cosmopolitan distribution and grows on herbivore dung.

It has pink or orange slimy conidia on white synnemata with phialidic conidiogenous cells.

[2] Several species have since been reclassified in other genera based on molecular phylogenetics or the discovery of sexual states, such as Atractium,[4] Stilbocrea, and Trichoderma.
