Tamago kake gohan (Japanese: 卵かけご飯, lit.
'egg on rice') is a popular Japanese breakfast food consisting of cooked Japanese rice topped or mixed with raw egg and soy sauce.
The dish is known in Japan as "tamago kake gohan" (gohan meaning rice or food, and kake meaning splashed or dashed), "tamago kake meshi" (meshi meaning rice or food), "tamago gohan", or simply "tamago kake".
A raw egg is mixed in a bowl of rice.
A depression in the rice may be made to pour the egg into.
