A post office called "Tewockony Springs" was established in what is now known as Tehuacana in 1847.
In 1850, the town came in second in an election held to decide the new Texas state capitol, which Austin ultimately won.

33.3% of all households were made up of individuals, and 18.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
About 8.5% of families and 10.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 9.1% of those under the age of eighteen and none of those 65 or over.
