[1] He was the son of Congressman Jonathan Brace, and was born in Glastenbury, Connecticut, October 16, 1779.
For many years he was a merchant there, and in 1819 he became the principal founder and developer of the Aetna (Fire) Insurance Company, established in Hartford.
[2] Brace served as the company's first president (and would remain on the Board of Directors until his death).
[3] In 1819, he also became the founder, board director and vice president of the Hartford Society for Savings.
