It is located on the Merthyr Line, 8.7 miles (14 km) north-west of Cardiff Central.

The station is built around a central island platform, which is accessible from a subway.

[1] In the spring of 2016 new shelters were installed on the platform ahead of the South Wales Metro project.

4 of those 6 loop around the City Line back to Radyr and onwards again to Pontypridd.There are 8 trains per hour towards Pontypridd with two terminating at Pontypridd, 2 to Aberdare, 2 to Merthyr Tydfil and 2 to Treherbert.

Sundays see 4tph to Cardiff Central and 1tph to Aberdare, Merthyr Tydfil and Treherbert with 1 terminating at Pontypridd.
