In 1860, The Memphis & Louisville Railroad built a line through the town and constructed a depot.

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 901 people, 390 households, and 255 families residing in the town.
There were 429 housing units at an average density of 310.0 per square mile (119.7/km2).
31.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 19.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
