Tricholoma atroviolaceum

It was described as new to science by American mycologist Alexander H. Smith in 1944.

[1] The mushroom seems to be exclusive to the Pacific coast of North America; it can be found in the Pacific Northwest under conifers, usually in sparse quantities.

[2] The cap is broadly convex to flat with a hard texture, covered with purplish gray-brown fibrous scales.

The stipe is thick, sometimes larger at the base, and browns with age.

The flesh has a starchy odor and slightly bitter taste.
