Troon railway station (1839–1892)

The station was originally part of the Glasgow, Paisley, Kilmarnock and Ayr Railway.

Today the goods station is also closed, and the line no longer carries through traffic.

This site was also used when the Ayrshire Coast Line was in the process of electrification as a maintenance depot for the equipment being used at the time.

Once electrification was complete in 1986 the site was used as a civil engineers yard serving the nearby Shewalton tip and Hillhouse Quarry.

This move resulted in the closure of the Irvine engineers yard.
