The most important cities of Turkmen Sahra are Gonbad-e Kavus, Aqqala, Kalaleh, Maraveh Tappeh, Gomishan and Bandar Torkaman.

The economy is based on industry, even if agriculture still plays a great role in some Turkmens' life, like in other places of Iran.
