The name Malakas (Tagalog: [mɐlɐˈkas], mah-lə-KAHS) has been used for four tropical cyclones in the western north Pacific Ocean.
The name was contributed by the Philippines and is a Filipino word meaning 'strong' or 'powerful'.
Due to its pronunciation being identical to that of a profane Greek slang word, the name Malakas was announced to be retired and will no longer be used.
