USNS Mission Santa Clara

SS Mission Santa Clara was a Type T2-SE-A2 tanker built for the United States Maritime Commission during World War II.

Later the tanker transferred to the Military Sea Transportation Service as USNS Mission Santa Clara (T-AO-132).

Mission Santa Clara was laid down 15 March 1944 under a Maritime Commission contract by Marine Ship Corporation, Sausalito, California; launched 18 May 1944; sponsored by Mrs. Donald E. Reed; and delivered 21 June 1944.

Reacquired by the Navy 30 November 1959 she was placed in service with MSTS and chartered to Mathiasens Tanker Industries, Inc. for operations.

However, she served less than a month for on 22 December 1959 she was transferred to MARAD and laid up in the Maritime Reserve Fleet at Suisun Bay.
