United States drug overdose death rates and totals over time

The United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has data on drug overdose death rates and totals.

Synthetic opioids other than methadone (primarily fentanyl) were involved with 70,601 deaths in 2021.

[4][5][6][1][2] Around 94,100 people died in the 12-month period ending July 31, 2024, at a rate of 257 deaths per day.
