[3] John Drury had a school near Kingwood in 1812, and William Kilpatrick taught at a private home in Paddytown in 1815.

The unincorporated community of Markleton is located east of PA Route 281, on the Casselman River which flows along the southeastern edge of Upper Turkeyfoot Township.

As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 1,232 people, 450 households, and 369 families residing in the township.

14.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 7.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
