It has been produced since 1995, and sits above the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles light commercial vehicle range; Caddy, Transporter, Crafter and Amarok.

While sales of the L80 ended in Europe in 2000, the Delivery in South America is still in production.

At the IAA Salon 2018, Volkswagen exhibited the electric version of the Delivery.
