Walter Samuel Gibson (1932 – 18 November 2018) was an American art historian and university professor whose studies focused primarily on the artists Pieter Bruegel the Elder and Hieronymus Bosch.
[1] Following military service in the United States Army during the Korean War, Gibson graduated cum laude with his BFA from Ohio State University in 1957 and then studied at Harvard University.
[2] After Gibson obtained his master of arts in 1960, he was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship for doctoral research.
[4][5] In retirement, Gibson was named the Clark Visiting Professor of Art History at Williams College.
[6] Gibson studied art from the Northern Renaissance period, particularly focusing on the artists Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel.
