Wauwil

Wauwil is a municipality in the district of Willisau in the canton of Lucerne in Switzerland.

Of the settled areas, 10.85% is covered with buildings, 2.37% is industrial, 0.34% is classed as special developments, 0.68% is parks or greenbelts and 3.73% is transportation infrastructure.

[4] The prehistoric lakeside settlement Wauwilermoos is listed as a Swiss heritage site of national significance.

[8][9][10] Re-established in 1947 as a penitentiary, it was rebuilt in the early 1980s as a semi-open institution where custodial sentences are carried out.

The age distribution, as of 2008[update], in Wauwil is; 409 people or 24.2% of the population is 0–19 years old.

In the 2000 census[update] the religious membership of Wauwil was; 1,135 (67.9%) were Roman Catholic, and 100 (6.%) were Protestant, with an additional 166 (9.93%) that were of some other Christian faith.

The wettest month is June during which time Wauwil receives an average of 115 mm (4.5 in) of precipitation.
