West Marion is a census-designated place (CDP) in McDowell County, North Carolina, United States, adjacent to the city of Marion, the county seat.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.9 square miles (4.9 km2), all land.
As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 1,556 people, 677 households, and 459 families residing in the CDP.
There were 731 housing units at an average density of 390.5 per square mile (150.8/km2).
