To the north is U.S. Route 6, the Mid-Cape Highway, beyond which is the CDP of Yarmouth Port.

[2] As of the census[5] of 2000, there were 6,460 people, 2,911 households, and 1,679 families residing in the CDP.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 93.10% White, 2.03% African American, 0.48% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.02% Pacific Islander, 1.47% from other races, and 2.38% from two or more races.

34.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 16.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

About 7.3% of families and 11.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 16.9% of those under the age of 18 and 6.5% of those 65 and older.
