Westwood Community High School

[2][3] Westwood continues to rank the highest academically out of the five high schools in the city, with the vast majority of its graduates attending post-secondary institutions across the country.

The school's science fair reputation has also been recognized at the national stage as it has produced one of the top 4 projects at the CWSF in the past.

The school has multiple sports teams, including Basketball, Soccer, Football, Volleyball, Badminton and Golf.

The school usually rotates dramatic productions and musical theatre each year, offering students a variety in styles, genres and types of script work to present.

Mr. Said El Mejdani made headlines when his Westwood high school students scored the highest marks, 90/90, on a computing and coding competition at the University of Waterloo in Canada.

In addition, Westwood Community High School hosts One-Act plays, mostly directed, and often written by students.

Award-winning plays to head to the Provincial Festival have been: The Raven (2003), Powerplay (2006), Wanda's Visit (2008), The Insanity of Mary Girard (2010), Elephant's Graveyard (2013), A Rope Against the Sun (2015), and I Never Saw Another Butterfly (2016).

Student Led extra-curciular activities such as Debate Club, STEM Committee, STEM Fellowship, WW GSA, Band (After School) Choir,Peer Tutoring, SH Co-ed Soccer, JH Co-ed Soccer, Music Leadership Team,Main Stage production & One Acts, Westwood Robotics Jr. / Sr., Sr. Badminton,Jr.

Usually held on a Friday, the staff and student body is divided into grades-students can participate in various games and challenges to earn raffle tickets in order to win prizes.

At the end of the event, a raffle is held in the gymnasium where tickets are drawn and students win prizes such as gift-cards, headphones, clothing or electronics.

Past prizes have included iPads, smart phones, an electric guitar and several popular gaming systems.
