White River (Lakota: Makhízita wakpá;[6] "White Dirt River") is a city in and the county seat of Mellette County, South Dakota, United States.

28.9% of all households were made up of individuals, and 10.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
The racial makeup of the city was 51.84% White, 43.48% Native American, 0.17% Asian, and 4.52% from two or more races.
Started in 1912 in White River as a community celebration, Frontier Days[14] continues today as a yearly event and attracts people from around the world.
