William Charles Doherty (February 23, 1902 – August 9, 1987) was an American labor union leader and ambassador.
In 1919, he falsified his age in order to join the U.S. Army, and he served in a secret operation in Siberia.
He joined the National Association of Letter Carriers, and in 1928, he was elected as president of his union branch.
In 1958, he achieved a pay increase for letter carriers by organizing rallies at Capitol Hill, and a day of prayer.
[1][2] In 1962, John F. Kennedy appointed Doherty as United States ambassador to Jamaica.
