William R. Barry

[2][5] Barry became a member of the Board of Visitors of the Maryland School for the Deaf in 1869, the second year of its active work, and he held this position to the time of his death.

[2] He was early made a member of the Executive Committee and retained this position through various changes in its personnel to the end of his thirty-one years of service.

[2] For about thirty years Barry volunteered as the city agent for the deaf, under appointment of the Mayor and Council of Baltimore.

[1] He was one of the founders of Chatsworth Independent Methodist Church of Baltimore, a liberal giver, and staunch supporter to the end of his life.

[2] Barry was one of the organizers of the Baltimore Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, and for some time held the office of President.
