William Rintoul

William Rintoul OBE (1870 – 25 August 1936) was a British chemist and President of the Faraday Society between 1934 and 1936.

Together with his friend Robert Robertson, Rintoul invented a process and designed a plant for the recovery of acetone during the production of cordite.

His organizational activities brought him in close contact with a wide range of scientists both in Britain and abroad.

For his contribution to supporting the army in the World War I, Rintoul was decorated with the Order of the British Empire.

From 1930, Rintoul was a member of the Council of the Faraday Society and in October 1934 was elected as its president.
