The sixteen-man tournament was first conceived by wXw in 2006 and has been held every year since then with the exception of the 2021 edition which was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The inaugural edition of the tournament took place between January 27 and 29, 2006, in Essen, Germany.
