Nixon and Agnew defeated the Democratic nominees, incumbent Vice President Hubert H. Humphrey of Minnesota and his running mate Senator Edmund Muskie of Maine.
George Wallace, running on a Southern populist platform, finished a distant third in New Jersey, with a single-digit vote share percentage.
Wallace performed most strongly in South Jersey, where he broke into double-digit support in several counties.
