Richmond's Kevin Anderson was the reigning player of the year, having won the honor in the 2009–10 Atlantic 10 Conference men's basketball season.

The list will be reduced to a 30-player mid-season watchlist in December and a final national ballot of about 20 players in March.

On March 10, the U.S. Basketball Writers Association released its 2010–11 Men's All-District Teams, based on voting from its national membership.

Two Atlantic 10 players were selected in the 2011 NBA draft on June 23, both in the second round: Justin Harper and Lavoy Allen.
