Voters in the 80 districts of the California State Assembly elected their representatives.
The election coincided with those for other offices, including for governor and the California State Senate.
The Democratic Party flipped five Republican seats: the 16th, 38th, 40th, 74th, and 76th districts.
These victories gave the Democrats a three-fourths supermajority of 60 seats, building upon the two-thirds supermajority that they gained in the previous election cycle.
