The Tigers were led by fifth-year head coach Broderick Fobbs and played their home games at Eddie Robinson Stadium in Grambling, Louisiana as members of the West Division of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC).

During the SWAC football media day held in Birmingham, Alabama on July 13, 2018, the Tigers were predicted to win the West Division.
