Moward was born Edy Muwardi Abdul Aziz bin Abbid on 29 November 1929 in Kuta Raja, a district in Aceh, Dutch East Indies.
He died at Cikini Hospital in Senen, Central Jakarta, on 6 November 1980 at 04.30 WIB (UTC+07:00) at the age of 50, and was buried at Karet Bivak Cemetery.
[1] He and his university friends, Del Juzar and Awaloedin Djamin, later made their film debut by starring in Darah dan Doa (1950), which was directed by Usmar Ismail.
[1] In 1974, he starred in Bulan Diatas Kuburan, which won him a Citra Award for Best Supporting Actor in the 1975 Indonesian Film Festival in Medan.
