Aeropsidae is a family of echinoderms belonging to the order Spatangoida.
[2] Initially, a large number of genera were included on the basis of their apetaloid ambulacra.
This, however, resulted in the inclusion of a number of unrelated genera some of which are holasteroid, and others that are spatangoid.
[3] Later, Mortensen included just two genera - Aceste and Aeropsis.
Aceste is now considered to be an apetaloid derivative of Proraster and is nor believed to be closely related to Aeropsidae.
