Akaska, South Dakota

Akaska (/əˈkæskə/; ə-KAS-kə)[5] is a town in Walworth County, South Dakota, United States.

Akaska was founded in 1907 as a station stop on a branch line of the Minneapolis and St. Louis Railway built that year between Conde and LeBeau, South Dakota.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.61 square miles (1.58 km2), all land.

52.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 38.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

37.5% of all households were made up of individuals, and 6.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.

There were 14.3% of families and 15.8% of the population living below the poverty line, including 33.3% of under eighteens and none of those over 64.
