Alvaren Allen

Alvaren Allen (September 25, 1822 – November 8, 1907)[1] was a businessman and Democratic politician who served as the second mayor of St. Anthony, Minnesota.

[2] Allen gradually built a very successful stagecoach business with lines running across Minnesota and into Wisconsin.

[2] In September 1884, Allen was the highest bidder for the right to exhibit the Lakota chief Sitting Bull.

This took place a year before he toured with the Buffalo Bill's Wild West show.

[4] Allen lived in St. Paul and operated the Merchants Hotel until shortly before his death in 1908.
