Austwell, Texas

Austwell (/ˈɔːswɛl/ AW-swel) is a city in northeastern Refugio County, Texas, United States.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.4 sq mi (1.0 km2), all land.

Approximately 8 miles (13 km) south of Austwell is the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, an important preserve for the whooping crane.

The climate in this area is characterized by hot, humid summers and generally mild to cool winters.

The racial makeup of the city was 91.67% White, 1.56% African American, 6.77% from other races.

About 32.0% of families and 33.5% of the population were below the poverty line, including 44.4% of those under the age of eighteen and 33.3% of those sixty five or over.
