Big Bend Township was organized in 1874, and was named from a meander in the Chippewa River.
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 257 people, 105 households, and 70 families residing in the township.
There were 124 housing units at an average density of 3.5 per square mile (1.4/km2).
28.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 14.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
About 1.4% of families and 4.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under the age of eighteen and 8.5% of those 65 or over.
