The species is native to Maritime Southeast Asia and is common throughout its range.
The epithet, drapiezii, is in honor of Belgian naturalist Auguste Drapiez.
[citation needed] B. drapiezii is found in Borneo, Indonesia, Peninsular Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, and Thailand, Vietnam.
