Dibromodifluoromethane

Dibromodifluoromethane is a mixed halomethane.

Along with Halons 1211, 2402, and 1301, it is one of the most effective fire extinguishers, however, it is also very toxic.

It is a class I ozone depleting substance (ODS).

Dibromodifluoromethane can be obtained by vapor phase bromination of difluoromethane.

[2] It is also formed during the fluorination of carbon tetrabromide.

NFPA 704 four-colored diamond Health 2: Intense or continued but not chronic exposure could cause temporary incapacitation or possible residual injury. E.g. chloroform Flammability 0: Will not burn. E.g. water Instability 0: Normally stable, even under fire exposure conditions, and is not reactive with water. E.g. liquid nitrogen Special hazards (white): no code
