Chamisal is a census-designated place (CDP) in Taos County, New Mexico.
Chamisal was founded by settlers on the Las Trampas Land Grant which dates back to 1751.
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.1 km2), all land.
31.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.4% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
About 18.6% of families and 30.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 33.7% of those under the age of eighteen and 38.3% of those 65 or over.
