[5] He committed to play college baseball at the University of Michigan and ranked as one of the top 120 high school prospects by Perfect Game.

Bolton spent 2018 with the West Virginia Power of the Single-A South Atlantic League, going 3–3 with a 3.65 ERA in nine starts.

He began 2019 with the Bradenton Marauders of the High-A Florida State League, where he was named Pitcher of the Week on May 13 and later an All-Star.

[22] Bolton began 2023 back in Indianapolis, where he made 8 relief appearances and posted a 2.38 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 11.1 innings pitched.
