The racial makeup of the township was 80.72% White, 4.75% African American, 0.36% Native American, 1.80% Asian, 0.04% Pacific Islander, 3.73% from other races, and 8.60% from two or more races.

There were 4,023 households, out of which 35.70% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.00% were married couples living together, 12.08% had a female householder with no spouse present, and 29.85% were non-families.

20.60% of all households were made up of individuals, and 8.00% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
