The racial makeup of the township was 87.54% White, 0.72% African American, 0.45% Native American, 0.13% Asian, 0.09% Pacific Islander, 3.23% from other races, and 7.84% from two or more races.

There were 929 households, out of which 35.50% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.42% were married couples living together, 9.15% had a female householder with no spouse present, and 33.05% were non-families.

26.60% of all households were made up of individuals, and 15.50% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
