It was named in 1932 for James Henry Dege (born 1868), a prominent Tacoma businessman and Captain of the First Regiment National Guard of Washington.
July, August, and September are the months when the Sunrise Road is seasonally open for vehicle traffic.
Dege Peak is located in the marine west coast climate zone of western North America.
As a result, the west side of the Cascades experiences high precipitation, especially during the winter months in the form of snowfall.
[5] The months of July through September offer the most favorable weather for viewing or climbing this peak.
