Part of the Cascade Range, it is situated northwest of Shriner Peak, south of Governors Ridge, and southeast of the Cowlitz Chimneys.
[1] Topographic relief is significant as the summit rises 3,400 feet (1,036 meters) above the Ohanapecosh in one mile (1.6 km).
The mountain's descriptive toponym was officially adopted in 1932 by the United States Board on Geographic Names.
[3] Double Peak is located in the marine west coast climate zone of western North America.
As a result, the west side of the Cascades experiences high precipitation, especially during the winter months in the form of snowfall.
